Large Fowl Brahma

This bird is recognised for its large size, sophisticated appearance, and docile temperament.

Hens typically weigh around 10 lbs, and cockerels are around 12 lbs.

Brahma chickens are feather legged, adding to their unique appearance, however extra care is needed to prevent issues such as frostbite, mites, and mud clumping.

Brahmas can be expected to lay around 4 medium sized brown coloured eggs a week and can lay well throughout winter when some breeds stop laying.

Typically, hens will take around 6 months to mature and reach point of lay however, waiting 9-12 months is not uncommon either.

As Brahmas are large birds they will require larger housing than most breeds, so consideration should be given to the number of birds that can be kept and the coop and run size or free-range area that is available.
